Prison Visits

Project volunteer groups visit male and female inmates at the Utah State Correctional Facility each week to facilitate Buddhist teachings and activities in affiliation with Prison religious services.

Buddhist Teachings and Practice

Activities during prison visits provide spiritual guidance and support to inmates during their incarceration. This can take a variety of forms, such as dharma discussions, teaching Buddhist principles and guiding meditation practices  that facilitate mindfulness, compassion and ethical living.

Meditation

Meditation is integral to all Buddhist traditions. Volunteers lead a variety of meditative practices with an overall purpose to cultivate a mind that is clear, peaceful, and free from suffering, and to use this clarity and peace to benefit oneself and others.

Support our project

You can make a positive impact in the lives of incarcerated citizens!

Getting involved doesn't necessarily mean visiting the prison. You can help by donating practice and teaching related items, and by participating in occasional fundraisers for the purchase of items such as cushions, bells, prayer beads, etc. that are necessary for Buddhist practice.

Your support will help us to continue our work, and will allow us to expand our efforts to make an even bigger difference to those who are working to turn their lives around and build a better future for themselves.

Contact us if you'd like to help.
